Selbst der Hurenwirt legte vor dem Bürgermeister einen Eid ab, so wie es die Abbildung im Salbuch zeigt: Er schwor, sich um die Frauen zu sorgen und sie nicht zu schlagen. Er musste darauf achten, dass seine Gäste sich anständig benahmen und sollte insbesondere das Spielen in seinem Hause verhindern. Wenn aber ein Streit gar nicht mehr zu schlichten war, musste der Bürgermeister benachrichtigt werden. Trotz seines guten Verdienstes durfte ein Hurenwirt nie Bürger werden. Mit seinen “Töchtern” betrieb er das sogenannte “Frauenhaus”. Ein solches ist in Volkach seit 1440 nachweisbar – für eine Stadt dieser Grösse eine eher ungewöhlniche Einrichtung. Es war wohl die Verkehrslage und die Nähe zu Würzburg, die zur Genehmigung eines Frauenhauses führte.
