The swiss Zopf is a bread traditionally baked on weekends for Sundays breakfast or “brunch“. Here is a simple howto and recipe, that is Licensed under GFDL 1.2 & CC-by-sa 3.0.
1 kg of white flour
120 g of butter
42 g of yeast
0.6 l of milk
3 teaspoons of salt
2 teaspoons of sugar
2 egg yolks
Fill the flour in a pot together with pieces of butter, the sugar and salt.
Dissolve the yeast in hand-warm Milk.
Fill the Milk (with dissolved yeast) into the pot.
Start mixing all together.
Knead the dough forcefully.
Put the dough back into the pot, cover it with a humid towel and let it arise double of it’s size.
After one hour take the dough out of the pot and cut it into two pieces (for one loaf of bread) or into 4 pieces (for 2 loaves of breads). Braid the dough like shown on the images.
Cover the bread with egg yolk.
Put it into the preheated oven for 50 Minutes with 180-200° C

Der Studiengang Medien & Kunst, Vertiefung Neue Medien, der Zurcher Hochschule der Kunste (ZHdK) zu Gast im Hartware MedienKunstVerein Dortmund
Der Hartware MedienKunstVerein zeigt vom 6. – 21. Oktober 2007 im Rahmen des Projektes „Crosskick – Europäische Kunsthochschulen zu Gast in deutschen Kunstvereinen“ der Arbeitsgemeinschaft deutscher Kunstvereine (ADKV) ausgewählte Arbeiten von DiplomandInnen und AbsolventInnen des Studiengangs Medien & Kunst, Vertiefung Neue Medien der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK). Die in der Ausstellung Sie nennen es Realität versammelten Arbeiten zeichnen sich durch einen breit gefassten Medienkunstbegriff sowie durch eine große Bandbreite von Themen, künstlerischen Herangehensweisen und einen erweiterten Begriff des Öffentlichen aus. In Installationen, Netzprojekten, kollaborativen Plattformen, urbanen Interventionen und performativen Formaten werden die Grenzen zur bildenden Kunst und zur Audio Art neu verhandelt.
Die vierzehn in der Ausstellung gezeigten Arbeiten hinterfragen und dekonstruieren auf intelligente Weise das, was wir gemein hin unter Realität verstehen. Dabei lassen sich zwei große thematische Blöcke beschreiben: Arbeiten zum „Rechnenden Raum“ und solche, die sich unter „Realitäts(de)konstruktionen“ fassen lassen. Im thematischen Feld des „Rechnenden Raums“ macht sich der Medienkünstler Lix in seiner Versuchsanordnung “Ich denke, das bin ich” (2005) an die Aufzeichnung dessen, was eine Gruppe Schlafender im Schlaf spricht und speist die nächtlichen Traum-Aussagen des Einen in Echtzeit in die Schlafkammer des Nächsten ein, hoffend auf die Initiierung eines Dialoges unter Schlafenden. Roland Roos, Rodrigo Derteano, Marc Widmer und Valentina Vuksic haben explizite Soundarbeiten entwickelt: Während Roos’Yours to Keep / For At Least Two And Mine (FALTAM) (2007) die Klangwahrnehmung der AusstellungsbesucherInnen nachhaltig irritiert, haben Marc Widmer mit Legoloop (2006) und Valentina Vuksic mit Harddisko (2004) experimentelle Musikinstrumente und quasi-konzertante Hardware entwickelt. Rodrigo Derteano lotet in The Distance (2005) die akustischen (Un)Endlichkeiten des Internet aus. Die Mediengruppe Bitnik und Sven König machen in Opera Calling (2007) mittels einer versteckten Wanze die Aufführungen der Züricher Oper im Telefonnetz der Stadt verfügbar.
Letzteres Projekt leitet bereits in den zweiten großen thematischen Block der „Realitäts(de)konstruktionen“ über. Hier findet man André Gwerders Installation I happen to know this for a fact (2005), in der der Künstler Bedrohungsszenarien und Verschwörungstheorien, die er in verschiedenen radikalen Newsgroups gefunden hat, zu beängstigend realen Charakteren verwebt. Fabian Voegeli führt uns währenddessen im Orakelraum: Bahnen, Spuren, Profile (2006) in die Techniken der Spurensicherung am Tatort ein. Mit neuen und alten Nachrichtenformaten setzten sich Marc Lee, Annina Rüst und Luca Degunda auseinander. Marc Lees Breaking the News (2006) erlaubt sozusagen auf Knopfdruck die Erstellung einer personalisierten und aufwändig (audio)visualisierten Nachrichtensendung. Annina Rüst lässt ihren eRiceCooker(2006) bei jeder neuen Nachricht über genmanipulierten Reis, die eine Suchmaschine im Netz findet, einen Topf Reis kochen, welchen sie den AusstellungsbesucherInnen zum Verzehr anbietet. Das Projekt MZZ (Mein Zeitungs Zeugs) (2005) von Luca Degunda eröffnet seinerseits einen subjektiven Blick auf tagesaktuelle Meldungen der Neuen Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ). Mit neuen Formen von Öffentlichkeiten setzten sich Download Finished von der Mediengruppe Bitnik und Sven König, Sofatrips.com von Mario Purkathofer und der Mikro TV / Telestreet Reader (2005) von Thomas Comiotto auseinander.Download Finished (2007) erklärt die Artefakte bzw. Fehler, die sich in komprimierten und über Internet-Tauschbörsen getauschten Filmen finden, zu genuin künstlerischem Material. Mario Purkathofers Reisebüro sofatrips.com entwickelt für Dortmund eine Backbone Odyssee (2007), eine Reise entlang der Netzknotenpunkten zwischen Zürich und Dortmund. Und Thomas ComiottosProxivision Reader (2005) dokumentiert die inzwischen fast schon historische Bewegung des Telestreet TV in Italien.
Der Studiengang Medien & Kunst, Vertiefung Neue Medien, der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste gehört zu den wichtigsten Ausbildungsstätten für Medienkunst in Europa. Die Ausbildung von KünstlerInnen und MedienautorInnen erfolgt u.a. durch die Dozierenden Knowbotic Research (Prof. Christian Hübler, Prof. Yvonne Wilhelm, Alexander Tuchacek), Prof. Margarete Jahrmann, Dr. Nils Röller, Prof. Giaco Schiesser und Dr. Felix Stalder.
Neben der Ausstellung von künstlerischen Projekten in der PHOENIX Halle werden am Eröffnungswochenende öffentliche Veranstaltungen stattfinden: eine Vorstellung der Vertiefung Neue Medien der ZHdK, Präsentationen der dort entstandenen Projekte, Diskussionen und Workshops zum aktuellen Wandel des Begriffs Medienkunst.

This year the talent screen award was won by the short movie called “Claude” that was produced by a group of you swiss artists and students that have released the movie under the Creative Commons license. The talent screen contest is an award that is organised by the swiss television together with some sponsors. The aim is to offer young producers a possibility to realise a short movie on a proposed topic within 48 hours. This year there were over 100 short movies that were sent to the jury.
The short movie of the winner will be published in the Internet the upcoming days.
Some time ago the Dataformat ODF (Open Document Format), that is specified by oasis was ISO certified (Norm ISO/IEC 26300). (Microsoft is part of oasis but only passively observed the ODF-group and refused an active cooperation). This format is most known in the use of OpenOffice, Abiword und Google Docs, and KOffice. It’s a open, free accessible standard, on which the documentation and specification is accessible and freely applicable. After a short time Microsoft refused to make this format readable and writable for the Microsoft Office Software what caused that some parties, lately also Sun Microsystems himself, have written a Plugin for it. Microsoft recognised the danger and feared a financial break-in and countered with it’s new format for Microsoft Office 2007 (for Microsoft Windows Vista). The Format is called “Office Open XML” and is neither open nor it is XML. This all wouldn’t be so sad, if Microsoft wouldn’t try to certify that format by the ISO Organisation through corrupt connections. So far the strategy of Microsoft was to modify established and standardisised formats, interfaces and protocols so that they work best with their own applications and complicate interoperability between different systems. (e.g. Kerberos, html, smtp and many others).
Anyway oooxml is “Defective by Design” and may not be ISO certified. The process for such a standardisation usually goes through norming and standardisation organisations of the concerned countries. In Germany it’s called DIN (Deutscher Industrie Standart) and in Switzerland SNV (Schweizerische Normen-Vereinigung) that certify such standardisations. In Germany the lately approved certification of the ooxml format is heavily critisised and disputed. In Switzerland the polls took place until Monday morning, the 27. august 2007. Aparently many Swiss banks are members of the SNV Organisation and speak out on behalf of Microsoft. I thought banks might be interested of the fact, that ooxml generates rounding errors in Microsoft Excel.
It looks like none of this “Click-Clack Engineers” cares about the technical problems that this format brings along and just blindly approves, what Microsoft asks them to.
