The Software Libre project “Exterminate alle the brutes” in Malawi, Central Africa, goes into round four.

“Exterminate all the Brutes” is a quote from the famous book “Heart of Darkness” by Joseph Conrad, a great writer who invented and described an exemplary character “Colonel Kurtz“, a radical imperialist and “Nigger hater”, imposing western doctrines and establishing structures to exploit under-developed countries’ resources.
The character was later picked up by Francis Ford Coppola and fondly influenced the story of “Apocalypse Now” the role of Marlon Brando, a “jet d’oeuvre” and histrorical film documentary and “anti-war” film in Vietnam.
In our days it’s is even worse. – Instead of exploiting in a straight and honest way, using the language of domination and repression, neo-imperialism appears in the cloak of development aid and salvation. Through disinformation and continuous feeding of stereotypes like the poor, starving black children in Africa, massive amounts of donations are abused and controlled to introduce neo-liberal structures of economical exploitation. The prime examples are: All oil drilling companies (under the argument of producing “green power”, they slaughter african cultures), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which undertakes pharma experiments with humans, arguing to make humanity healthier), Agricultural companies (e.g. Monsanto, testing their genetically manipulated seeds on soils they exploit. To generate sterile seeds, which can’t be used after harvesting, but need to be re-bought every season and can’t be reproduced, as they are patented), development aid companies such as “Save the Children” and “World Food Programme” massive amounts of donations and United Nations Development funds are abused and returned into the structures of western economies.
This brood of exploitation and hatred against less developed races needs to be extinguished and exterminated. The heteronomous circles of deception and self-distruction has to be broke-up. Third world cultures deserve the possibility to establish and rule their own future with integrity and the respect of human rights.

Christoph Schlingensief died today, 21st of August 2010, in Berlin, Germany.
Here’s his farewell letter:
“Es gibt jetzt leider ein paar harte Neuigkeiten, denen sofort nachgegangen werden muss! Meine Ängste während unserer letzten Produktion Via Intolleranza II haben sich leider bestätigt, und schon diese Arbeit war ein harter Kampf, den ich nur mit Eurer Hilfe bewältigen konnte.
Bitte versteht mich, wenn ich jetzt Zeit brauche und eben nicht darüber phantasieren möchte, ob ich in dieser Situation nicht die Möglichkeiten mich künstlerisch auszudrücken, gerade nutzen sollte. Die Zeit verlangt aber gerade den reinen Realismus, und der Ausdruck kommt so oder so. Ob durch mich oder andere, die darüber ihre eigenen Existenzfragen beantworten wollen. Vielleicht kann S.M.A.S.H. sogar später noch stattfinden. Die Erfahrungen gehen doch weiter, und die damit verbundenen Gedanken werden sowieso einfließen … Aber bitte lasst (meiner Frau) Aino, meinen Freunden und mir jetzt diese Zeit, und Willy Decker und Ulrich Khuon haben das auch sofort verstanden.
Es ist für uns alle sehr bitter … aber ich sehe nach sehr gründlichen und traurigen Überlegungen: diese Arbeit zu diesem Zeitpunkt würde keine Kraftspende, sondern nur ein höchstriskantes “Spielchen” werden, das nur den einen Zweck hätte, nämlich so zu tun, als wäre die beste Therapie: Augen zu und durch. Und das darf jetzt auf keinen Fall passieren.
Aino und ich haben uns unglaublich auf diese Arbeit gefreut. Wieder bei der Ruhrtriennale arbeiten zu können, die mir schon vor zwei Jahren zu Beginn dieser nicht enden wollenden Krise sehr geholfen hat, wäre für mich eine große Ehre gewesen! Aber nun heißt es, schnell auf die neuen Befunde reagieren, und dann erst sehen wir weiter. Ich danke Euch allen und vermisse Euch schon jetzt! Ich hoffe sehr, dass wir die jetzt entstandene Situation bewältigen werden.

The western “1st world countries” are beeing hurt on a sensitive nerve, especially in a time of “financial crisis” when they cannot really afford it. Maybe it’s time for Africans to take back for what they have been betrayed over centuries…
